CHE SIGNIFICA TURGIDITY IN INGLESE
Pressione turgore
La pressione del turgore spinge la membrana plasmatica contro la parete cellulare delle piante, dei batteri e delle cellule di funghi così come quelle cellule protiste che hanno pareti cellulari. Questa pressione, turgidità, è causata dal flusso osmotico dell'acqua da un'area di bassa concentrazione di soluto al di fuori della cella nel vacuole della cellula, che ha una concentrazione solubile maggiore. Le cellule vegetali sane sono turgidi e le piante dipendono dalla turgidità per mantenere la rigidità. Al contrario, questo fenomeno non è osservato in cellule animali che non hanno pareti cellulari per impedire loro di essere scoppate dal flusso di acqua nella cella e deve o pompare continuamente l'acqua o vivere in una soluzione isotonica in cui non esiste una pressione osmotica.
