Moher - lana di capra angora. L'origine del nome è contestata. Ad esempio, Wladyslaw Kopalinski dà una etimologia dal flyjjar arabo. Il Dizionario Internazionale Collaborativo di Inglese suggerisce anche l'origine del fr. moire - che ricorda il marmo. Il luogo d'origine del mohair è dato al Tibet, ma sono noti anche le immagini di Babilonia, che raffigurano la gente in abiti in modo caratteristico, indicando che essi possono essere stati fatti di mohair. La produzione di Mohair era nota in Asia Minore. Le prime capre dell'Europa arrivarono in Europa nel 1554. Tuttavia, non svilupparono i loro canili. Alla fine del XVIII secolo, l'angora fu cercato di portare in Svezia, Venezia, Germania e Inghilterra, ma senza successo. A causa della difficoltà di ottenere materie prime, i tessuti di mohair erano molto costosi. Jako miejsce pochodzenia moheru podawany jest Tybet, ale znane są też wizerunki pochodzące z Babilonu, przedstawiające ludzi w ubraniach w sposób charakterystyczny zmechaconych, co wskazuje na to, że mogły być one wykonane z moheru. Produkcja moheru znana była w Azji Mniejszej. Do Europy pierwsze kozy angorskie dotarły w 1554. Nie udało się wtedy jednak rozwinąć ich hodowli. Z końcem XVIII w. próbowano sprowadzić kozy angorskie do Szwecji, Wenecji, Niemiec oraz Anglii, jednak bez sukcesu. W związku z trudnością ze zdobyciem surowca tkaniny moherowe były bardzo drogie. Jako przykład wskazujący na dużą ich wartość posłużyć może zapisek z Wiśnickiej księgi złoczyńców z XVII wieku, opisujący przypadki kradzieży moherowych sukni.
