균계
균계는 진핵생물의 분류 중 하나로, 효모와 곰팡이, 버섯 등이 포함된다. 균계는 동물, 식물, 세균 등과 구별되는 독립된 계이다.
진균류라고도 한다. 비슷하게 생긴 점균류나 난균류와는 다른 분류이다. 균계 세포는 세포벽이 식물과 달리 키틴으로 구성되어 있으며, 엽록소 등과 같은 동화색소가 없는 점이 특징이다. 따라서 고등식물처럼 광합성을 하여 스스로 양분을 만들지 못하므로 다른 생물체나 유기물에 붙어서 기생 또는 부생을 한다.

진균류 식물분류 가운데서 균류 Fungi는 분열균 Schizomycetes, 점균류 Myxomycetes 및 진균류 Eumycetes의 3종으로 대별되고 진균류는 조균류 Phycomycetes, 자낭균류 Ascomycetes, 담자균류 Basidomycetes, 불완전균류 Fungi imperfecti의 4가지로 세분된다. 이러한 것은 모두 자연계에 널리 분포하고 이 가운데 사람의 진균증에 관계가 깊은 것으로는 조균류인 Mucor, 자낭균류인 Aspergillus, 분완전균류인 Cryptococcus, Candida, Dermatophitis, Histoplasma 등이 있다. Candida albicans의 경우가 많다. druse라고 일컬어지는 모래알 크기의 황록색 또는 흑색의 덩어리를 나타내는 방선균(放線菌)을 보게 되는 일도 있다.
