Hospital-hospital ini menyediakan perkhidmatan dan rawatan kepada orang umum tanpa mengira penyakit atau darjat. Pesakit hanya diasingkan mengikut jantina. Jururawat wanita merawat pesakit wanita, jururawat lelaki merawat pesakit lelaki. Di Malaysia, hospital yang terbesar dan terpenting ialah Hospital Besar Kuala Lumpur. Lain-lain hospital ialah Hospital Selayang, Hospital Serdang, Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Hospital Putrajaya, Hospital Universiti dan lain-lain. Hampir setiap bandar mempunyai hospital yang dibina dan dibiayai oleh kerajaan dan boleh dikatakan semua perkhidmatan adalah percuma sehingga kini.
