Meyvesi tipik bir fasulyedir; 3-5 cm. uzunluğunda olup, ortalama 5-6 dane bulunur. Adaptasyon yeteneği iyi bir bitkidir. Ancak fazla asitli toprakları sevmez. Kışı ılıman geçen bölgelerde sonbaharda erken ekilerek iyi bir şekilde yetiştirilebilir. Kışı soğuk geçen bölgelerde ilkbaharda ekilir. Ekimde 8-10 hatta 12 kg./da tohum kullanılır. 3-5 cm derinliğinde ekilir. Türkiye'de yetiştirilen fiğ miktarı TÜİK tarafından sağlanan 2004 yılı verilerine göre 540.000 ton yeşil ot ve 410.000 ton kuru ottur.
