अवतार शब्दशः अर्थ देह मध्ये दिले किंवा देह वर घेत अर्थ तो एखाद्या संवेदनाची भौतिक प्रकटीकरण, देव किंवा शक्ती ज्याचे मूळ स्वरूप अव्यवहार्य आहे त्या संकल्पना आणि जन्माचा संदर्भ देते. त्याच्या धार्मिक संदर्भात शब्द एक देव स्वर्गातील, किंवा पृथ्वीवरील मानवी / प्राणी स्वरूपात दैवी येत पासून वंश याचा अर्थ वापरले जाते.
