Sophism शिक्षण एक पद्धत आहे. प्राचीन ग्रीसमध्ये, sophists शिक्षकांचे एक वर्ग होते जे शिक्षकांचा सिद्धांत आणि वक्तृत्व तंत्रज्ञानाच्या तंत्रज्ञानाच्या उपयोगासाठी विशेषत: अध्यापन-श्रेष्ठता, किंवा प्रामुख्याने तरुण राजकारण्यांना व खानदानी साधनांचा वापर करण्याच्या तत्वांचा वापर करतात. शिक्षणासाठी पैसा वसूल करण्याची आणि केवळ जे पैसे देऊ शकतील त्यास शहाणपण देण्याचा प्रघात, सॉक्रेटीजने केलेल्या त्यांच्या निवेदनांनुसार प्लॅटोमाद्वारे आणि एक्सनॉफोनच्या मेमोरबीलियाने केले. यासारख्या काहींनी सोफिस्टांना "विशेष" किंवा "फसवे" असे म्हटले जाते, म्हणूनच या शब्दाचा आधुनिक अर्थ. टर्म ग्रीक σόφισμα, sophisma, σοφίζω, sophizo वरून "मी शहाणा आहे" हे शब्द आहेत; प्रदान करणे σοφιστής, sophistēs, म्हणजे "ज्ञानी-इस्त, जो शहाणपण करतो" आणि σοφός, सोफो म्हणजे "शहाणा मनुष्य".
