Dalam sistem pengendalian, kebuntuan adalah keadaan yang terjadi apabila proses atau thread memasuki keadaan menunggu kerana sumber yang diminta dipegang oleh proses menunggu yang lain, yang seterusnya menunggu sumber lain. Jika suatu proses tidak dapat mengubah keadaannya selama-lamanya kerana sumber yang diminta olehnya sedang digunakan oleh proses menunggu yang lain, maka sistem itu dikatakan berada dalam kebuntuan.
