Interferon
Interferon adalah protein yang dibuat dan dilepaskan oleh sel-sel tuan rumah sebagai tindak balas terhadap kehadiran patogen seperti virus, bakteria, parasit atau sel tumor. Mereka membenarkan komunikasi di antara sel-sel untuk mencetuskan pertahanan perlindungan sistem imun yang membasmi patogen atau tumor. IFNs tergolong dalam kelas besar glikoprotein yang dikenali sebagai sitokin. Interferon dinamakan selepas keupayaan mereka untuk "mengganggu" dengan replikasi virus dalam sel-sel tuan rumah.
