Definisi cap dalam kamus Melayu
cap I 1. alat utk menurunkan bekas atau kesan tanda (tandatangan, nama, dll) dgn menekankannya di atas kertas (surat dll), tera: ~ ini dibuat drpd getah; 2. cetak, cetakan; huruf ~ huruf cetak (bukan huruf tulisan); kain ~ kain yg dicetak (tidak dibatik); tukang ~ tukang mencetak buku; 3. bekas atau kesan (tanda, gambar, tandatangan, dll) yg dibuat dgn cap: tiap-tiap surat perjanjian itu mesti ada ~ pegawai daerah, barulah boleh diterima; 4. tanda yg berupa gambar dll (utk barang dagangan dll): Datuk Ujang menghulurkan sebatang cerut ~ ayam; 5. ki ciri, sifat (keadaan, watak, dll); dgn demikian kelihatan ~nya keadaannya yg sebenarnya; ~ batu cetakan yg dibuat dgn batu, litograf; ~ dagang(an) tanda (gambar, nama, dll) yg digunakan dlm perdagangan (pd barang- barang dll); ~ jari bekas tekanan jari (utk ganti tandatangan atau utk mengenali orang yg memiliki jari itu); ~ kempa sl tera (cap) diraja kerajaan Melayu; ~ mohor a) cap kerajaan (tera kerajaan): Sultan Johor telah mengurniakan ~ mohor kpd Raja Melewar; b) cap pd mata wang; mengecap 1. membubuh atau menaruh cap, menjadikan bercap; 2. mencetak (buku, surat khabar, kain, dll): surat khabar Utusan Melayu telah ~ berita itu dgn huruf-huruf kasar di muka hadapannya; 3. memberi bertanda: bilangan gigi gear itu ada dicap pd gear tersebut; 4. ki menganggap sbg, menuduh atau menamai: Amerika sendiri mungkin dicap ingin menguasai Vietnam Selatan; kita boleh ~ dia sbg “sasterawan nakal”; cap-mengecap segala usaha cetakan, cetak-mencetak; mengecapkan menerakan, mencetakkan; pengecapan 1. ark perihal (perbuatan, kerja, dll) mengecap(kan); 2. percetakan; 3. perusahaan cap-mengecap, pencetakan.
