Rom

Rom merupakan ibu negara Itali dan bandar raya terbesar dan paling ramai penduduk negara itu, dengan lebih 2.7 juta penduduk dalam sebuah perbandaran lebih kurang 1,285.3 km2, manakala penduduk kawasan bandar adalah dianggarkan 3.46 juta oleh Eurostat. OECD menganggarkan Kawasan metropolitan Rom mempunyai 3.7 juta penduduk. Bandar ini terletak di bahagian barat-tengah Semenanjung Itali, di sungai Tiber. Rom juga sering dikaitkan dengan Gereja Roman Katolik dan ketua uskupnya, Paus. Satu enklaf Rom ialah Kerajaan Kota Vatican, wilayah berdaulat Holy See dan negara paling kecil di dunia. Sebagai satu daripada beberapa bandar utama Eropah yang terselamat dari Perang Dunia Kedua, Rom tengah pada dasarnya kekal dengan ciri Renaissance dan Baroque seperti biasa. Rom adalah destinasi pelancong ketiga paling dilawati dalam Kesatuan Eropah, dan pusat sejarah disenaraikan UNESCO sebagai salah satu Tapak Warisan Dunia. Seperti satu bandar moden ia menjadi ibu negara Itali semenjak 1870, dan bertumbuh terutamanya dalam dua jangka masa salah satu sisi Perang Dunia II.
