Azeotrop
Azeotrop jest mieszaniną dwóch lub więcej cieczy, których proporcje nie mogą być zmienione przez prostą destylację. Dzieje się tak dlatego, że gdy azeotrop jest gotowany, para ma takie same proporcje składników jak niegotowana mieszanina. Ze względu na to, że ich kompozycja nie ulega zmianie w wyniku destylacji, azeotropy nazywają się również stale wrzącymi mieszaninami. Słowo azeotropowe pochodzi od greckich słów ζέειν i τρόπος w połączeniu z prefiksem α-, aby nadać całościowe znaczenie, "nie ma zmiany na wrzeniu". Azeotropowe mieszanki par związków zostały udokumentowane, a wiele azeotropów trzech lub więcej związków jest także znane. Są to mieszaniny dwuskładnikowe mające ten sam skład w fazie ciekłej i gazowej i gotują w stałej temperaturze. W takim przypadku nie można oddzielić składników przez destylację frakcjonowaną. Istnieją dwa rodzaje azeotropów: minimalny wrzący azeotrop i maksymalny wrzący azeotrop. Rozwiązanie wykazujące większe odchylenie od prawa Raoulta stanowi minimalny wrzący azeotrop w określonej kompozycji.
