Czapka z daszkiem lub półfabrykaty są członkami małej rodziny ptaków Turnicidae, które przypominają, ale nie są spokrewnione z przepiórkami Phasianidae. Mieszkają w ciepłych murawach w Azji, Afryce, Europie i Australii. Istnieje 16 gatunków w dwóch rodzajach, z czego większość gatunków znajduje się w rodzaju Turnix i tylko jeden występuje w rodzaju Ortyxelos. Przyciski są małe, szare, biegnące u ptaków, które unikają latania. Kobieta jest bardziej jaskrawo zabarwiona płciami i inicjuje zaloty. Nietypowo przyciski są wielozadaniowe, z samicami krążącymi wśród kilku mężczyzn i wypędzającymi rywalizujące kobiety z jej terytorium. Obie płci współpracują w budowie gniazda na ziemi, ale tylko mężczyzna inkubuje jaja i skłania młode. Jaja wylują się po okresie inkubacji 12 lub 13 dni, a młodzi potrafią latać w ciągu dwóch tygodni od wylęgu.
