Chanson de geste, starofrancuski "pieśń bohaterskich czynów" to średniowieczna narracja, rodzaj epickiego wiersza, który pojawia się na początku literatury francuskiej. Najwcześniejsze znane wiersze tego gatunku pochodzą z końca XI i XII wieku, przed powstaniem lirycznej poezji trouvères i najwcześniejszych romansów wersetowych. Osiągnęli apogeum w latach 1150-1250. Pojmowane wierszem, wiersze narracyjne o umiarkowanej długości były pierwotnie śpiewane lub recytowane przez minstrele lub dzwonnice. Ponad trzystu chansons de geste przetrwało około trzystu rękopisów, które miały miejsce w XII - XV w.
