Historia współczesna opisuje okres czasu ściśle związany z teraźniejszością; jest to pewna perspektywa współczesnej historii. Termin "historia współczesna" był używany przynajmniej od wczesnych 19 wieku. W najszerszym kontekście tego używania współczesna historia jest tą częścią historii wciąż żyjącą w pamięci.
