Oficjalne odsłonięcie Międzynarodowej Organizacji Hydrograficznej (IHO) między Oceania Arktyki i Oceanu Północnoatlantyckiego biegnie od Straumness do Cape Nansen, 132 km na południowy zachód od Cape Tunipier. Od Straumnes do Cape Nansen odległość wynosi 336 km (209 mil). Wąska głębokość, na której góruje Grenlandia-Islandia, znajduje się na dole morza, wynosi 625 stóp (191 m npm). Prąd Grenlandii zimno wschodniego przebiega przez cieśninę i prowadzi góry lodowe na północnym Atlantyku.
