Elipsoida
Elipsoida jest zamkniętą kwadratową powierzchnią, która jest trójwymiarowym analogiem elipsy. Standardowym równaniem elipsoidy wyśrodkowanym na początku układu współrzędnych kartezjańskich i wyrównanym do osi jest punkty, leżące na powierzchni i odcinki linii od początku do tych punktów nazywane są półosiowymi osiami o długości a, b, c. Odpowiadają półosiowej osi i pół-małej osi odpowiednich elips. Istnieją cztery odrębne przypadki, w których jest zdegenerowany: ▪ - elipsoida trójosiowa lub skręcona; ▪ - sprężystość elipsoidy; ▪ - proszek elipsoidy rewolucji; ▪ zdegenerowany przypadek sfery; Literatura matematyczna często używa "elipsoidy" zamiast "elipsoidy trójosiowej". Literatura naukowa często wykorzystuje "elipsoidę" w miejsce "elipsoidy rewolucji" i stosuje przymiotnik "tri-axial" tylko przy traktowaniu ogólnej sprawy. Starszej literatury używa "sferoidy" w miejsce "elipsoidy rewolucji".

Definicja elipsoidy w słowniku jest powierzchnią geometryczną, symetryczną względem trzech osi współrzędnych, których sekcje płaszczyznowe są elipsami lub okręgami. Standardowe równanie: x² / a² + y² / b² + z² / c² = 1, gdzie ± a, ± b, ± c są przecinkami na osiach x, y i z-. Inną definicją elipsoidy jest ciało stałe o tym kształcie.
