Embothrium jest rodzajem od dwóch do ośmiu gatunków roślin z rodziny Proteaceae, pochodzących z południowej Ameryki Południowej, w Chile i sąsiednich zachodniej Argentynie i południowym Peru; rodzaj występuje tak daleko na południe jak Tierra del Fuego. Powszechne nazwy to Chilijski Firebush w języku angielskim oraz Notro, Ciruelillo, Fosforito w języku chilijskim. Są to duże krzewy lub drzewa rosnące do 10-20 m wysokości z tułowiem o średnicy do 70 cm. E. coccineum i być może inni są bardzo podatne na odławianie i niezarządzane rośliny często tworzą gęste gaje wielu pęcherzy ssących. Liście są wiecznie zielone, czasami liściaste w zimnych partiach, o długości 5-12 cm i szerokości 2-4 cm. Kwiaty są wytwarzane w gęstych gronach, jasno czerwonych, rurowych, o długości 2,5-4,5 cm, podzielonych na cztery płaty w pobliżu wierzchołka, które odbijają się na odblasku, aby odsłonić pręciki i styl.

Embothrium is a genus of two to eight species in the plant family Proteaceae, native to southern South America, in Chile and adjacent western Argentina and southern Peru; the genus occurs as far south as Tierra del Fuego. Common names include Chilean Firebush in English, and Notro, Ciruelillo, Fosforito in Chilean Spanish. They are large shrubs or trees growing to 10–20 m tall with a trunk up to 70 cm diameter. E. coccineum and perhaps others, is also highly prone to suckering and unmanaged plants often form dense groves of many suckering shoots. The leaves are evergreen, occasionally deciduous in cold areas, 5–12 cm long and 2–4 cm broad. The flowers are produced in dense bunches, brilliant red, tubular, 2.5-4.5 cm long, split into four lobes near the apex which reflex to expose the stamens and style.
