Fail-safe
Bezpiecznym lub niezabezpieczonym urządzeniem jest urządzenie, które w razie awarii odpowiada w sposób, który nie spowoduje żadnych szkód, a co najmniej najmniej szkodliwych dla innych urządzeń lub niebezpieczeństwa dla personelu. Fail-safe i fail-secure są podobne, ale odrębne pojęcia. Fail-safe oznacza, że urządzenie nie zagraża życiu i właściwościom, gdy nie powiedzie się. Fail-secure oznacza, że dostęp lub dane nie zostaną uszkodzone w niewłaściwych rękach. Czasami podejścia sugerują przeciwstawne rozwiązania.
