From Old Grog, nickname of Edward Vernon (1684–1757), British admiral, who in 1740 issued naval rum diluted with water; his nickname arose from his grogram cloak.

Grog
Grog jest jednym z wielu napojów alkoholowych. Słowo pierwotnie dotyczyło napoju wyprodukowanego z wodą lub "małego piwa" i rumu, który brytyjski wicemarszałek Edward Vernon wprowadził do marynarki wojennej w dniu 21 sierpnia 1740 r. Vernon nosił płaszcz z grogramu i nosił nazwę Old Grogram lub Old Grog.
