Owadożerny
Owadem owadobójczym jest drapieżnik, który je owady. Alternatywnym pojęciem jest entomofage, który odnosi się również do ludzkiej praktyki jedzenia owadów. Pierwszymi owadożernymi kręgowcami byli płazowie. Kiedy rozwinęli się 400 milionów lat temu, pierwsze płazów były piscivores, z wieloma ostrymi stożkowymi zębami, podobnie jak nowoczesny krokodyl. Ten sam układ zębów nadaje się także do spożywania zwierząt z egzoszkieletami, a zatem zdolność do jedzenia owadów jest przedłużeniem okresu piscivory. W tym samym czasie ssaki owadożerne zostały naukowo sklasyfikowane w kolejności zwanej Insectivora. Porządek ten został porzucony, ponieważ nie wszystkie ssaki owadożerne są ściśle związane. Większość podatków owadobójczych została przekwalifikowana; te, które jeszcze nie zostały przeklasyfikowane, pozostają w kolejności Eulipotyphla. Chociaż indywidualnie małe, owady występują w ogromnych ilościach - liczy ponad milion opisanych gatunków: 1958, a niektóre z tych gatunków występują w ogromnych ilościach. W związku z tym owady stanowią bardzo dużą część biomasy zwierzęcej w niemal wszystkich środowiskach innych niż morskie, niepolarne.
