W biologii, powleczenie jest naturalnym pokrywaniem organizmu lub narządu, takiego jak skóra, łuska, powłoka lub skórka. Pochodzi z integumentum, co oznacza "pokrycie" po łacinie. W sensie przekazanym lub graficznym może oznaczać płaszcz lub przebranie. W języku angielskim "integument" jest dość nowoczesnym słowem, którego pochodzenie zostało nawiązane na początku XVII wieku.
