Mikroformy są dowolnymi formami, foliami lub papierem, zawierającymi mikrooramienniki dokumentów do transmisji, przechowywania, czytania i drukowania. Obrazy mikroformatu są zwykle zredukowane do około jednej dwudziestej piątej oryginalnego rozmiaru dokumentu. W celach specjalnych można stosować większe redukcje optyczne.
