Monty Python to brytyjska surrealistyczna grupa komediowa, która stworzyła Latający cyrk Monty Pythona, szkic brytyjskiego komiksu telewizyjnego, który po raz pierwszy wyemitował w BBC 5 października 1969 roku. Czterydzieści pięć odcinków zostało zrealizowanych w czterech seriach. Zjawisko Pythona rozwinęło się z serialu telewizyjnego na coś większego w zasięgu i wpływie, stwarzając kolejne pokazy tras koncertowych, filmy, liczne albumy, kilka książek i musical sceniczny, a także wprowadzanie członków na indywidualną gwiazdę. Wpływ grupy na komedię porównano z wpływem Beatlesów na muzykę. Seriale telewizyjne, nadawane przez BBC od 1969 do 1974, zostały spisane i wykonane przez członków Grahama Chapmana, Johna Cleese'a, Terry'ego Gilliam, Erica Idle'a, Terry'ego Jonesa i Michaela Palina. Luźno ustrukturyzowana jako szkicowa wystawa, ale z nowatorskim podejściem strumieniowo-świadomościowym, zepchnęła granice tego, co było do zaakceptowania w stylu i treści.
