Archipelag Sulu jest łańcuchem wysp na Pacyfiku, na południowym zachodzie Filipin. Archipelag tworzy północną granicę Morza Celebes i południową granicę Morza Sulu. Wyspy archipelagowe Wyspy Sulu znajdują się w regionie Mindanao, w prowincjach Basilan, Sulu lub Tawi-Tawi. Archipelag nie jest, jak się często przypuszczano, pozostałości mostu lądowego między Borneo a Filipinami. Raczej jest to odsłonięta krawędź małych grzbietów podmorskich, wyprodukowanych przez tektoniczne pochylenie dna dennego Bazyleana, Jolo i innych wysp w grupie to wymarłe stożki wulkaniczne, rosnące z najbardziej wysuniętego na południe grzbietu. Tawi-Tawi, najbardziej wysunięta na południe wyspa grupa, ma serpentynowy rdzeń-piwnica z pokryciem wapiennym. Ten łańcuch wyspy jest ważną trasą migracji ptaków. Największe miasta w okolicy znajdują się na wyspach Maimbung i Jolo. Większa wyspa Palawan na północy, przybrzeżne regiony rozciągającego się na zachód półwyspu Zamboanga Mindanao i północnej części wyspy Borneo były dawniej częścią talibowskiego sułtana z Sulu i północnego Borneo.
