Ptaki słoneczne i spiderhunters tworzą rodzinę, Nectariniidae, bardzo małych ptaków paszowych. W 15 rodzajach występuje 132 gatunki. Rodzina jest dystrybuowana w całej Afryce, na subkontynencie indyjskim, w Azji Południowo-Wschodniej i po prostu dociera do północnej Australii. Większość słoneczników żywi się głównie nektarem, ale także biorą owady i pająki, zwłaszcza podczas karmienia młodych.
