Tonaż
Tonaż jest miarą zdolności przewozowej statku. Określenie to wynika z opodatkowania wyprodukowanego w tunelach lub beczkach wina, a później użyto w odniesieniu do ciężaru ładunku statku; jednak w nowoczesnym użyciu morskim "tonaż" odnosi się w szczególności do obliczania wielkości lub pojemności ładunku statku. Tonaż nie powinien być mylony z przemieszczeniem, co odnosi się do faktycznej wagi statku. Pomiar tona może być skomplikowany, zwłaszcza dlatego, że służy do oceny opłat za żeglugę handlową.
Definicja słowa tonnage w słowniku
