Najważniejszą cechą statku wielorybniczego jest trywork, umieszczony na rufie przedniego masztu. W dwóch trypotach żeliwnych ustawionych w tym piecu z cegły, żelaza i drewna olej wielorybniczy wydobywał się z blubber wielorybów, podobnie jak smalec ze smażonej wieprzowiny. Piec jest tymczasowo przymocowany do pokładu "żelaznymi kolanami", a zbiornik wody pod murami utrzymuje ciepło w spaleniu drewna na pokładzie.
