Lakier jest przezroczystym, twardym, ochronnym wykończeniem lub folią głównie stosowaną do wykańczania drewna, ale także do innych materiałów. Lakier jest tradycyjnie kombinacją oleju schnącego, żywicy, rozcieńczalnika lub rozpuszczalnika. Wykończenia lakierów są zwykle błyszczące, ale mogą być zaprojektowane do wytwarzania połysku satynowego lub półbłyskowego przez dodanie środków "płaskich".
