Dodo lub dodo, zwany także Dronte był ptak latający non-wymarłego endemicznych Mauritiusa, jeden z Maskareny na wschodnim wybrzeżu Afryki niedaleko Madagaskaru. Genetycznie najbliższy ptak był także wymarłym samotnikiem rodrigów, także z podrodziny Raphidae z rodziny gołębi; jest to, że najbardziej podobnym wciąż żywym jest gołąb-nicobara. Przez jakiś czas mylnie sądzono, że biała gołębica istniała na wyspie Reunion. Dodo miało około metra wysokości i mogło ważyć od 10 do 18 kilogramów. Wygląd zewnętrzny świadczy tylko o obrazach i tekstach pisanych w XVII wieku, i z tego powodu znacznej zmienności, biorąc pod uwagę fakt, że kilka opisy są znane, dokładny wygląd jest tajemnicą. O dodó ou dodô, também chamado de dronte, foi uma ave não-voadora extinta endêmica das Ilhas Maurícias, uma das ilhas Mascarenhas na costa leste da África, perto de Madagascar. A ave mais próxima geneticamente foi a também extinta solitário-de-rodrigues, também da subfamília Raphidae da família das pombas; sendo que a mais semelhante ainda viva é o pombo-de-nicobar. Durante algum tempo, pensou-se erroneamente que o dodó branco existisse na ilha de Reunião. O dodó tinha cerca de um metro de altura e podia pesar entre 10 e 18 quilogramas na natureza. A aparência externa é evidenciada apenas por pinturas e textos escritos no século XVII, e, por causa dessa considerável variabilidade, levando-se em conta que poucas descrições são conhecidas, a aparência exata é um mistério. Semelhantemente, pouco se sabe com exatidão sobre o habitat e o comportamento. Tem sido descrito com plumagem cinza acastanhado, pata amarela, um tufo de penas na cauda, cabeça cinza sem penas, e o bico preto, amarelo e verde.
