Strabon (Strabo) - w wersji łacińskiej Strabo - (n. 63 lub 60 lat pne Amasa Pontica - (dziś Amasya) - d. 21 lub 26 ne) był w rzeczywistości pseudonimem, czyli Sasu, noszonym przez historycznie znanego greckiego geografisty. Studiował w Azji Mniejszej, Armenii, Grecji, Rzymie i Aleksandrii i pojechał do Europy, Afryki i Azji Mniejszej do Morza Czerwonego. Pierwsze szkice historyczne, zawarte w 47 książkach, napisane prawdopodobnie między 27 pne. Hrs i 7 AD, cytowane przez autorów, którzy poszli za nimi, były prawie całkowicie utracone. Następnie napisał Geografię na podstawie własnych obserwacji i prac swoich poprzedników, w tym Homera, Eratostenesa, Polibusa i Posejdoniusza. Praca oprócz materiałów historycznych zawiera szereg opisów miejsc (klimatu, reliefu, hydrografii) i ludów, z etnograficznymi i mitologicznymi aspektami, stanowiących bogate źródło wiedzy o starożytnym świecie.
