Os testes de toxicidade reprodutiva mostram que ele tem baixo potencial para causar problemas reprodutivos. Mulheres grávidas, mães que amamentam e crianças têm níveis mais altos de acetona. As dietas cetogênicas que aumentam a acetona no organismo são usadas para reduzir ataques epilépticos em lactentes e crianças que sofrem de epilepsia refratária recalcitrante.
