Teste de Ames
O teste de Ames é um método amplamente utilizado que usa bactérias para testar se um dado produto químico pode causar câncer. Mais formalmente, é um ensaio biológico para avaliar o potencial mutagênico de compostos químicos. Um teste positivo indica que o produto químico é mutagênico e, portanto, pode atuar como cancerígeno, porque o câncer é freqüentemente ligado à mutação. O teste serve como um ensaio rápido e conveniente para estimar o potencial carcinogênico de um composto porque os testes de carcinógeno padrão em ratos e ratos são demorados e caros. No entanto, são falsos positivos e falsos negativos.
