Apetição, ou apetite, é uma saudade ou busca de algo. É um dos dois aspectos do desejo, o outro sendo volição. Aristóteles faz a distinção da seguinte maneira: tudo, também, é agradável pelo qual temos o desejo dentro de nós, já que o desejo é o desejo de prazer. Dos desejos, alguns são irracionais, alguns associados à razão. Por irracional, quero dizer, aqueles que não surgem de nenhuma opinião que a mente tena. Deste tipo são aqueles conhecidos como "naturais"; por exemplo, aqueles originários do corpo, como o desejo de alimentação, a saber, a fome e a sede, e um tipo separado de desejo que responde a cada tipo de alimento; e os desejos relacionados com gosto e sexo e sensações de toque em geral; e aqueles de cheiro, audição e visão. Os desejos racionais são aqueles que somos induzidos a ter; Há muitas coisas que desejamos ver ou obter porque nos foram informados e induzido a acreditar no bem.
