Azeótropo
Um azeótropo é uma mistura de dois ou mais líquidos cujas proporções não podem ser alteradas por simples destilação. Isso acontece porque, quando um azeótropo é fervido, o vapor tem as mesmas proporções de constituintes que a mistura não lavada. Como a sua composição é inalterada por destilação, os azeótropos também são chamados de misturas de ebulição constantes. A palavra azeótropo é derivada das palavras gregas ζένιν e τρόπος combinadas com o prefixo α- para dar o significado geral, "nenhuma alteração na fervura". As misturas azeotrópicas de pares de compostos foram documentadas, e também são conhecidos muitos azeótropos de três ou mais compostos. São misturas binárias com a mesma composição em fase líquida e em vapor e fermentam a temperatura constante. Nesse caso, não é possível separar os componentes por destilação fracionada. Existem dois tipos de azeótropos: azeotropo de ebulição mínimo e azeotropo de ebulição máximo. Uma solução que mostra um maior desvio positivo da lei de Raoult forma um azeótropo mínimo de ebulição em uma composição específica.
