Baleia Bowhead
A baleia-do-intestino é uma espécie da família da baleia-direita Balaenidae, na subordem Mysticeti e gênero Balaena. Uma baleia de cor escura, sem uma barbatana dorsal, pode crescer até 20 m de comprimento. Esta espécie de corpo grosso pode pesar 75 toneladas a 100 toneladas, em segundo lugar apenas para a baleia azul, embora o comprimento máximo do bolo seja menor que outras baleias. Vive inteiramente em águas árticas e sub-árticas férteis, ao contrário de outras baleias que migram para se alimentar ou se reproduzir em águas de baixa latitude. Também era conhecida como baleia-direita da Groenlândia ou baleia do Ártico. Os baleeiros americanos chamavam-lhe de baleia polar, baleia polar ou Rússia ou baleia russa. O galo tem a maior boca de qualquer animal. O galo era um alvo da baleeira cedo. Sua população foi severamente reduzida antes de uma moratória de 1966. A população é estimada em mais de 24.900 em todo o mundo, abaixo de cerca de 50.000 antes da caça à baleia.
