Cálculo
O cálculo é o estudo matemático da mudança, da mesma forma que a geometria é o estudo da forma e álgebra é o estudo das operações e sua aplicação para a resolução de equações. Tem dois ramos principais, cálculo diferencial e cálculo integral; esses dois ramos estão relacionados um ao outro pelo teorema fundamental do cálculo. Ambos os ramos usam as noções fundamentais de convergência de seqüências infinitas e séries infinitas para um limite bem definido. Geralmente considerado fundado no século 17 por Isaac Newton e Gottfried Leibniz, hoje o cálculo tem usos generalizados em ciência, engenharia e economia e pode resolver muitos problemas que a álgebra sozinha não pode. O cálculo é uma parte da educação matemática moderna. Um curso em cálculo é um portal para outros cursos mais avançados de matemática dedicados ao estudo de funções e limites, amplamente chamados de análise matemática. Calculus historicamente foi chamado de "o cálculo dos infinitesimais", ou "cálculo infinitesimal". A palavra "cálculo" vem do latim e se refere a uma pequena pedra usada para contar.
