Nicolau Copérnico
Nicolaus Copernicus (polonês: Mikołaj Kopernik (ajuda), alemão: Nikolaus Kopernikus, 19 de fevereiro de 1473 - 24 de maio de 1543) foi um matemático e astrônomo renascentista que formulou um modelo heliocêntrico do universo que colocou o Sol, em vez da Terra, no centro. A publicação do livro de Copérnico, De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (Sobre as revoluções das esferas celestiais), logo antes da sua morte em 1543, é considerado um evento importante na história da ciência. Começou a Revolução Copernicana e contribuiu de forma importante para a revolução científica. Copérnico nasceu e morreu na Prússia real, uma região do Reino da Polônia desde 1466. Copérnico tinha um doutorado em direito canônico e, embora sem graus, era um médico, poliglota, estudioso de clássicos, tradutor, governador, diplomata e economista que em 1517 estabeleceu uma quantidade de teoria do dinheiro, um conceito principal na economia até o presente dia, e formulou uma versão da lei de Gresham em 1519, antes de Gresham.
