A Nebulosa de Caranguejo é um remanescente de supernova e uma nebulosa de vento pulsar na constelação de Taurus. Correspondendo a uma supernova brilhante registrada pelos astrônomos chineses em 1054, a nebulosa foi observada mais tarde pelo astrônomo inglês John Bevis em 1731. Com uma aparente magnitude de 8,4, comparável à da maior lua de Saturno, não é visível a olho nu mas pode ser feita usando binóculos em condições favoráveis. Nas energias de raios-X e de raios gama acima de 30 keV, o Caranguejo é geralmente a fonte persistente mais forte no céu, com um fluxo medido que se estende até acima de 10 TeV. Localizado a uma distância de cerca de 6.500 anos-luz da Terra, a nebulosa tem um diâmetro de 11 anos-luz e se expande a uma taxa de cerca de 1.500 quilômetros por segundo. É parte do braço de Perseus da Via Láctea galaxy. No centro da nebulosa encontra-se o Pulsar de Caranguejo, uma estrela de nêutrons de 28 a 30 km, com uma taxa de rotação de 30,2 vezes por segundo, que emite pulsos de radiação de raios gama para ondas de rádio. A nebulosa foi o primeiro objeto astronômico identificado com uma explosão histórica de supernova. A nebulosa age como uma fonte de radiação para o estudo de corpos celestes que o ocultaram.
