Dada / dɑːdɑː / ou Dadaism foi um movimento de arte da vanguarda européia no início do século XX. Muitos afirmam que Dada começou em Zurique, na Suíça em 1916, se espalhando para Berlim logo depois, mas o alto de New York Dada foi o ano anterior, em 1915. Para citar a linguagem do conhecimento da arte de Dona Budd, Dada nasceu de uma reação negativa ao horrores da Primeira Guerra Mundial. Este movimento internacional foi iniciado por um grupo de artistas e poetas associados ao Cabaret Voltaire em Zurique. Dada rejeitou a razão e a lógica, estimulando o absurdo, a irracionalidade e a intuição. A origem do nome Dada não está clara; alguns acreditam que é uma palavra absurda. Being a fan of authentic Dada, I find today's art - what I call 'Bankers' Dada' - mind-numbingly dull. The most challenging work I've seen of late is by The British Art Resistance. Their document, 'A Call for Heroes in an Age of Cowards', is apt in these days of witless chancers.
Dada was an extreme protest against the physical side of painting. It was a metaphysical attitude.
From a purely ethnological point of view, I was not a period-born Dada.
