Detritus (geologia)
Detritus é partículas de rocha derivadas de rochas pré-existentes através de processos de intemperismo e erosão. Um fragmento de detritos é chamado de trevas. As partículas detritais podem consistir em fragmentos líticos, ou em fragmentos monominerais. Essas partículas são freqüentemente transportadas através de processos sedimentares para sistemas de deposição, tais como leitos de rios, lagos ou sucessões sedimentares formadoras de oceanos. Processos diagagênicos podem transformar estes sedimentos em rocha através de cimentação e litificação, formando rochas sedimentares, como arenito. Essas rochas podem, por sua vez, voltar a ser resistidas e erodidas para formar uma segunda geração de sedimentos.
