Na geometria, o diâmetro de um círculo é qualquer segmento de linha reta que passa pelo centro do círculo e cujos pontos de extremidade se encontram no círculo. Também pode ser definido como o acorde mais longo do círculo. Ambas as definições também são válidas para o diâmetro de uma esfera. A palavra "diâmetro" é derivada do grego διάμετρος, "diâmetro de um círculo", de δια-, "através de" + μέτρον "," medida ". Muitas vezes é abreviado DIA, dia, d ou ⌀. Em um uso mais moderno, o comprimento de um diâmetro também é chamado de diâmetro.
