A fundição sob pressão é um processo de fundição de metal que se caracteriza por forçar o metal fundido sob alta pressão em uma cavidade do molde. A cavidade do molde é criada usando duas ferramentas de aço de ferramentas endurecidas que foram usinadas em forma e funcionam de forma semelhante a um molde de injeção durante o processo. A maioria das peças fundidas sob pressão são feitas de metais não ferrosos, especificamente ligas de zinco, cobre, alumínio, magnésio, chumbo, estanho e a base de estanho. Dependendo do tipo de metal que está sendo moldado, é utilizada uma máquina de câmara quente ou fria. O equipamento de fundição e as matrizes de metal representam grandes custos de capital e isso tende a limitar o processo a uma produção de alto volume. A fabricação de peças com fundição é relativamente simples, envolvendo apenas quatro etapas principais, o que mantém o custo incremental por item baixo. É especialmente adequado para uma grande quantidade de peças pequenas e médias, e é por isso que a fundição produz mais peças vazadas do que qualquer outro processo de fundição. As fundições sob pressão são caracterizadas por um excelente acabamento superficial e consistência dimensional.

Die casting is a metal casting process that is characterized by forcing molten metal under high pressure into a mold cavity. The mold cavity is created using two hardened tool steel dies which have been machined into shape and work similarly to an injection mold during the process. Most die castings are made from non-ferrous metals, specifically zinc, copper, aluminium, magnesium, lead, pewter and tin based alloys. Depending on the type of metal being cast, a hot- or cold-chamber machine is used. The casting equipment and the metal dies represent large capital costs and this tends to limit the process to high volume production. Manufacture of parts using die casting is relatively simple, involving only four main steps, which keeps the incremental cost per item low. It is especially suited for a large quantity of small to medium sized castings, which is why die casting produces more castings than any other casting process. Die castings are characterized by a very good surface finish and dimensional consistency.
