O coeficiente de difusão ou difusão é uma constante de proporcionalidade entre o fluxo molar devido à difusão molecular e o gradiente na concentração das espécies. A difusão é encontrada na lei de Fick e inúmeras outras equações de química física. A difusividade geralmente é prescrita para um dado par de espécies e em paridade para um sistema multi-espécies. Quanto maior a difusividade, mais rápido eles se difundem. Tipicamente, o coeficiente de difusão de um composto é de ~ 10 000 × como grande no ar como na água. O dióxido de carbono no ar tem um coeficiente de difusão de 16 mm2 / s, e na água o coeficiente de difusão é de 0,0016 mm2 / s. A difusão tem uma unidade SI de m2 / s. Nas unidades CGS é dado em cm2 / s.
