Eletrocardiografia
A eletrocardiografia é a gravação da atividade elétrica do coração. Tradicionalmente, esta é a forma de uma interpretação transtorácica da atividade elétrica do coração durante um período de tempo, conforme detectado por eletrodos anexados à superfície da pele e gravados ou exibidos por um dispositivo externo ao corpo. A gravação produzida por este procedimento não-invasivo é denominada eletrocardiograma. É possível gravar ECGs de forma invasiva usando um gravador de loop implantável. Um ECG é usado para medir o sistema de condução elétrica do coração. Ele capta impulsos elétricos gerados pela polarização e despolarização do tecido cardíaco e se traduz em uma forma de onda. A forma de onda é então usada para medir a taxa e regularidade dos batimentos cardíacos, bem como o tamanho e posição das câmaras, a presença de qualquer dano ao coração e os efeitos de drogas ou dispositivos usados para regular o coração, como um pacemaker. A maioria dos ECGs são realizados para fins de diagnóstico ou pesquisa em corações humanos, mas também podem ser realizados em animais, geralmente para o diagnóstico de anormalidades cardíacas ou pesquisa.
