Euhemerismo
O euhemerismo é um método de interpretação racionalizante, que trata os relatos mitológicos como um reflexo de eventos históricos, ou personagens mitológicos como personagens históricas, mas que foram moldadas, exageradas ou alteradas por recontar e costumes tradicionais. Foi nomeado pelo seu criador Euhemerus. Na literatura mais recente do mito, como na Mitologia de Bulfinch, o Euhemerism é chamado de "interpretação histórica" da mitologia. O euhemerismo é definido na literatura acadêmica moderna como a teoria de que os mitos são contas distorcidas de eventos históricos reais. Euhemerus não foi o primeiro a tentar racionalizar a mitologia através da história, pois as opiniões euhemeristas são encontradas em escritores anteriores, incluindo Xenophanes, Heródoto, Hecataeus de Abdera e Ephorus. No entanto, Euhemerus é creditado como tendo desenvolvido a teoria em aplicação a todos os mitos, considerando a mitologia como "história disfarçada".
