Exógeno refere-se a uma ação ou objeto que vem de fora de um sistema. É o oposto de endógeno, algo gerado a partir do sistema. ▪ Em um modelo econômico, uma mudança exógena é aquela que vem de fora do modelo e é inexplicada pelo modelo. Por exemplo, no modelo simples de oferta e demanda, uma mudança nos gostos ou preferências do consumidor é inexplicável pelo modelo e também leva a mudanças endógenas na demanda que levam a mudanças no preço de equilíbrio. Da mesma forma, uma mudança na renda do consumidor é dada fora do modelo. Dito de outra forma, uma mudança exógena envolve uma alteração de uma variável que é autônoma, ou seja, não é afetada pelo funcionamento do modelo. ▪ Na regressão linear, significa que a variável é independente de todos os outros valores de resposta. ▪ Na biologia, "exógeno" refere-se a uma ação ou objeto proveniente de um sistema externo. Por exemplo, um agente de contraste exógeno em imagens médicas refere-se a um líquido injetado no paciente por via intravenosa que melhora a visibilidade de uma patologia, como um tumor.
