A febre aftosa ou a febre aftosa é uma doença viral infecciosa e às vezes fatal que afeta os animais de cascos, incluindo bovinos domésticos e selvagens. O vírus provoca febre alta por dois ou três dias, seguido de bolhas dentro da boca e nos pés que podem se romper e causar claudicação. A febre aftosa tem graves implicações para a criação de animais, uma vez que é altamente infecciosa e pode ser transmitida por animais infectados através de aerossóis, através do contato com equipamentos agrícolas, veículos, roupas ou alimentos contaminados, e por predadores domésticos e selvagens. A sua contenção exige esforços consideráveis em vacinação, monitoramento rigoroso, restrições comerciais e quarentenas, e ocasionalmente a matança de animais. Os animais sensíveis incluem gado, búfalo de água, ovelhas, cabras, porcos, antílope, cervo e bisonte. Sabe-se também que infecta ouriços e elefantes; Lhamas e alpacas podem desenvolver sintomas leves, mas são resistentes à doença e não passam para outras da mesma espécie.
