Na política monetária dos Estados Unidos, o termo Fedspeak é o que Alan Blinder chamou de "dialogo turgente de inglês" usado pelos presidentes do Conselho da Reserva Federal na elaboração de declarações intencionalmente verbais, vagas e ambíguas. A estratégia, usada de forma mais proeminente por Alan Greenspan, foi usada para impedir que os mercados financeiros reagissem exageradamente às observações do presidente. A cunhagem é um paralelo intencional ao Newspeak de Nineteen Eighty-Four, uma novela de George Orwell. A linguagem críptica deliberadamente confusa e cuidadosamente ensaiada, descrita como um "dialecto de Delphic indescível", é "dar às pessoas uma sensação de que não há como entender a economia e as finanças" e assim permitir que o Federal Reserve eo governo gerenciem a economia com menos interferência do público em geral. Embora Ben Bernanke tenha afirmado que Fedspeak agora significa uma comunicação clara e extensa da ação do fed, a interpretação original em que Fedspeak significou "explicar mais, é entender melhor" ainda é proeminente.
