Uma câmera de meio quadro é uma câmera usando um formato de filme na metade do formato de exposição pretendida. Uma variedade comum é o formato 18x24mm no filme regular 135. É o formato de exposição normal em câmeras de filme de 35mm. Para câmeras fotográficas que usam o filme de 35mm, o formato usual é 24x36mm, então as câmeras fotográficas com exposições de 18x24mm são chamadas de câmeras de meia-estrutura. Havia uma moda de câmeras de meio quadro na década de 1960, principalmente do Japão, originando os modelos da Olympus Pen. Permitiu uma câmera muito compacta, usando o filme comumente disponível, ao contrário de outras subminiaturas que usavam filmes exóticos. Esta moda terminou quando câmeras como o Rollei 35 ou o Olympus XA mostraram que era possível fazer câmeras tão pequenas como as de meia-estrutura, mas levando exposições a 24x36mm de quadro completo. Com uma câmera de meio quadro, pode-se caber duas vezes mais imagens em um rolo de filme padrão. Por exemplo, 72 exposições em um rolo de 36 exposições, 48 em uma exposição 24, e assim por diante. As exposições têm uma orientação vertical em oposição à orientação horizontal de uma SLR ou rangefinder de 35mm.
